TITLE     DRUM - HOMEMADE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
DESCRIPTION     Decorated oatmeal box becomes drum
DETAILS     One nice thing about grandparents who were also depression babies, is their ability to turn the mundane into something wonderful -  like an oatmeal box into a drum. This is an easy project. Our drum is patriotic in design because we are planning a fourth of July parade with homemade instruments, newspaper hats, red, white and blue pom poms, and flags. Use your imagination to create the perfect drum for your event. We glued construction paper around ours and glued on white stars. With a pen we poked a hole in both ends and threaded string through them. Our drum can now be carried over the shoulder. My friend Jan who teaches a preschool music class, collects wonderful, water washed sticks when at the beach which she uses as drum sticks. In the absence of beach sticks, put a pencil into a spool of thread. May not look as nice, but it's just as effective.
